Driving and supporting the digital and energy transition
The École Nationale Supérieure d’Électricité et de Mécanique, commonly known as ENSEM, is a renowned higher education institution in France, specializing in engineering education in the fields of electricity, mechanics, and digital sciences.
Founded in 1900, ENSEM quickly established itself as a center of excellence in engineering, producing highly qualified professionals in high demand on the job market.
Whether in the fields of Energy or Digital Technology, ENSEM’s engineering programs offer students a stimulating learning environment focused on academic excellence, technological innovation, and global engagement.
Thanks to high-quality teaching, modern facilities, and dynamic partnerships with the professional world, ENSEM continues to train the engineers of tomorrow—ready to tackle the technological and industrial challenges of our time.
Social and Environmental Responsibility
EDI Unit
Equality, Diversity, Inclusion
The school adheres to the strong values set out in the Charter of Values of the University of Lorraine.
An EDI (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion) unit was established at ENSEM in 2022. Its goal is to fight against discrimination primarily based on sex, gender identity, race or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, or sexual orientation. It is dedicated to preserving social harmony and inclusivity.
Composed of 18 members (2 from the administration, 2 faculty members, 1 academic staff member, and 13 students), the unit’s mission is to listen to and support any victim or witness of incidents falling within its scope, and to direct them to appropriate university services for assistance.
In addition to this listening and support role, the unit implements policies and programs that recognize and promote equality, diversity, and inclusion, as well as student and staff engagement.

SD&SR
Sustainable Development & Social Responsibility
ENSEM is firmly committed to a sustainable approach. In addition to the fact that the very core of its academic programs is rooted in the fields of energy (especially decarbonized energy) and mobility, many initiatives have been launched to strengthen its responsible and proactive stance.
The school organizes or supports numerous events created for or by students, such as:
• Climate Fresk, Shift Project workshops, Clean Walks, and afterwork discussions on the challenges of sustainable development and social responsibility.
• Through its student associations (Humanitarian Aid Committee, Energy for N’Daw, Shell Eco-Marathon).
• Staff training on the Climate Fresk, awareness programs about the environmental impact of business travel, and participation in the Inter-Institutional Travel Plan.
Brabois Technopole, a pioneering site.
Enhancing attractiveness in research, innovation, and economic development

ENSEM is located on the Brabois campus, one of three higher education institutions on the site, alongside the National School of Agronomy and Food Industries (ENSAIA) and the National School of Geology (ENSG).
Situated in a dynamic environment, ENSEM shares 500 hectares of the Brabois Technopole with various academic institutions across disciplines including science, medicine, and specialized schools.
The school is surrounded by prestigious research institutes such as INRST and the decentralized scientific documentation center of the CNRS.
Moreover, the proximity to 164 companies operating in modern sectors such as automation, robotics, imaging, and biotechnology creates an ecosystem conducive to innovation and technological development.

Alumni serving students and graduates
The creation of ENSEM in 1900 by dynamic industrialists and insightful academics was quickly followed, in 1902, by the founding of the Friendly Association of IEN Engineers by visionary students. This association later became the Association of ENSEM Engineers, now known as ENSEM Alumni.
The initiative of these pioneers reflects strong values that have become deeply rooted in the collective mindset of ENSEM engineers—values shaped throughout their academic journey, internships, and student life. ENSEM Alumni aims to preserve and expand these values. The association is managed by a Board of Directors made up of 24 elected volunteers, chosen by members during the General Assembly. The Board elects an Executive Committee responsible for running the association and launching initiatives for the benefit of engineers, students, and the school.
ENSEM Alumni actively engages a network of over 3,500 working ENSEM engineers. It maintains close ties with the school through various forms of student support and jointly organized events, and it has an office within the school’s premises.

For over 120 years, the Association has ensured intergenerational connection by organizing and encouraging meetups:
ENSEM Day, Inter-class dinners, Regional gatherings, Graduation class reunions.
ENSEM Alumni is also involved in student life at the school:
Grants to student associations, Annual scholarships (Vogt and Stoufflet) for exceptional students pursuing part of their studies abroad.
The Association also plays a key role in promoting the school and the ENSEM degree, working closely with the school through numerous initiatives:
Targeted job offers, A lifetime email access, Presence at the ENSEM Career Forum, Engagement on social media and the official website,
Participation in the School’s Board of Directors and Advisory Council, Publication of a printed alumni directory, Release of the bi-annual magazine “ENSEMble”, Membership in IESF (French Engineers and Scientists Society).
ENSEM
Foundation

The ENSEM Foundation has been recognized as a Public Utility since its creation in June 1932. Its mission is to support all aspects of the ENSEM community: students and student associations, the school and its educational projects, and researchers in the school’s laboratories.
Financial Support for Students
The Foundation supports the most deserving students in their international mobility projects. For example, it awards a total of €17,400 per year through the Guilbert Scholarship, in the form of annual grants of €300, €600, €900, or €1,200.
In addition, the Foundation can assist students facing financial hardship, helping them cover study-related expenses (such as housing or tuition fees) through interest-free loans.
Financial Support for Student Associations
Each year, the Foundation also provides significant funding to the budgets of several ENSEM student associations.
Financial Support for the School
Lastly, the Foundation plays an active role in supporting the school’s investment projects, particularly in the development of new technological platforms.
