ENSEM DEGREES
Programs aligned with socio-economic needs
ENSEM trains engineers who are equipped to tackle the major challenges of tomorrow, driven by the energy and digital transitions.
The programs offered are rigorous and comprehensive, providing students with a strong theoretical and practical foundation.
The engineering curriculum at ENSEM spans three years, including core academic courses, group projects, internships in companies, and study periods abroad.
Two
Degrees
Available under
student or apprentice status
The ENSEM engineer is an architect of a sustainable future, ready to face the technological challenges of tomorrow.
ENSEM offers two engineering degrees: Energy Degree and Digital Systems Degree.
Both are available under student status or through work-study programs (apprenticeship or professionalization contract during the final year).
The structure of both programs is based on the same principles:
They include core curriculum semesters focused on foundational skills and specialization/personalization semesters that allow students to shape their individual career paths.
ENERGY DEGREE
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
DIGITAL SCIENCES
Two major challenges are addressed:
• Energy supply (production, distribution, transmission, and storage of energy, particularly renewable or decarbonized energy)
• Optimization of energy use (energy efficiency, decarbonization of industrial processes and transport, control and operation of energy systems)
DIGITAL SYSTEMS DEGREE
COMPUTER SCIENCE
AUTOMATION
SIGNAL PROCESSING
APPLIED MATHEMATICS
Two major challenges are targeted:
• The development of intelligent products and smart devices of tomorrow (cyber-physical systems, embedded and autonomous systems, safety and security, connected objects, etc.)
• The creation of digital environments for engineering or decision-making support (digital simulation, virtualization, artificial intelligence, digital technology & healthcare, etc.)
TWO DEGREES
ONE SHARED SET OF VALUES
Raising awareness and training our students on the challenges of sustainable development and social responsibility
Historically, ENSEM’s training programs have always naturally integrated environmental challenges, particularly in the field of energy.
Courses in renewable energies (photovoltaic, hydraulic, wind power), electrification, energy storage (fuel cells), energy efficiency, waste heat recovery, and even Green IT, are just a few examples of how our students are prepared to help reduce the carbon footprint of our societies. Many student projects in both the first and third years are focused on these issues.
Beyond the scientific and technical aspects, new training modules dedicated to broader sustainability concerns have been added to address global challenges, (Energy geopolitics, Use of natural resources, Product life cycle and circular economy, Eco-design, Ethics)
To further enhance this training, the school has organized or supported numerous events initiated for or by students, including:
• Climate Fresk workshops
• Shift Project workshops
• Clean walks
• Sustainability and social responsibility afterwork events

Training our students in innovation challenges and supporting their entrepreneurial projects.
At ENSEM, training in innovation and entrepreneurship is much more than a simple academic course — it is a philosophy integrated into every aspect of learning.
This focus is developed through various courses and activities designed to raise students’ awareness of innovation and entrepreneurship:
• A serious game dedicated to business simulation, run by external professionals.
• A second-year project focused on innovation, research and development, or technology monitoring.
• Speakers from PEEL (Lorraine Student Entrepreneurship Hub, part of the University of Lorraine) give lectures to introduce different forms of entrepreneurship and inspire students to create their own ventures.
• ENSEM Conseil, the school’s junior enterprise, organizes various events featuring entrepreneurial testimonials, including experiences in launching a startup or developing a product.
