ENSEM
Driving and Supporting the Digital and Energy Transitions
Founded in 1900, the École Nationale Supérieure d’Électricité et de Mécanique has been training engineers for over a century in the fields of mechanics, electrical engineering, and digital systems.
Today, ENSEM engineers are prepared to become leaders in the digital and energy transitions and champions of sustainability, addressing the urgent needs of our planet. They provide solutions to major economic, industrial, environmental, and societal challenges: designing and building new models for the production, distribution, or storage of decarbonized energy; reducing society’s carbon footprint by improving energy efficiency, particularly in industry and transportation; and leading the digital revolution, which is transforming work organization, industrial management, and social structures.
Located on the Engineers Campus of the Brabois Plateau in Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy, ENSEM asserts its position as a School of Energy and Digital Technologies at the heart of the University of Lorraine and the Grand Est region.

Our Programs
Programs available in both full-time and apprenticeship formats
ENSEM offers rigorous and comprehensive programs, providing students with both strong theoretical knowledge and practical experience. The engineering curriculum spans three years, including core coursework, group projects, internships, and international study opportunities.
Thanks to high-quality teaching, modern facilities, and dynamic partnerships with the professional world, ENSEM continues to educate the engineers of tomorrow, ready to meet today’s technological and industrial challenges.
Energy Degree
Renewable Energy, Decarbonization, Electrification, Energy Efficiency
Energy engineers play a crucial and versatile role in numerous sectors, where their expertise helps solve complex challenges and drive innovation in how we produce, use, and manage energy resources. Their scope of action goes far beyond energy technologies and infrastructures, encompassing various scientific fields (electrical engineering, networks, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, energy systems…) applied across sectors such as renewable energy, hydrogen, nuclear energy, industry, environment, research and development, resource management, and even energy policy.
Digital Systems Degree
Industry of the Future, IoT, Embedded and Autonomous Systems, AI
Digital systems engineers can work across a wide range of industries, given the pervasive and growing importance of digital technologies. The program is built on a broad foundation of skills (control systems, computer science, signal processing, functional safety, AI) essential for developing autonomous, intelligent, and communicative systems capable of interacting with their environment.
Opportunities for hybrid tracks exist, such as collaborations with TELECOM Nancy focusing on Embedded Systems & Software, and with the Faculty of Medicine offering dual expertise in Health and Digital Technologies, thereby expanding the range of professional opportunities.

The Future of
Technology and
Creative Thinking
ENSEM is regularly featured in regional and national media for its innovative projects, particularly in the fields of eco-friendly mobility and renewable energy development.
Among the most notable initiatives are projects such as Urbanloop, VRAM, Micro-Energy Grids, and the ENSEM Eco-Marathon. These initiatives, led by teams of students and faculty, have resulted in patents, business start-ups, and have received strong political (from the Grand Est Region and the Greater Nancy Metropolis) and industrial support — demonstrating ENSEM’s key role in sustainable regional development.
OUR INDUSTRIAL
Partners
ENSEM has made partnerships with the business world a top priority, with the goals of contributing to regional economic development and offering students the best professional integration opportunities.
