INTERNATIONAL
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you
didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from
the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Mark Twain
International experience is an opportunity to discover different working methods and approaches. In addition to deepening your knowledge of foreign languages, you will acquire intercultural skills and ease in working with employees from different cultures and backgrounds.
International mobility is enriching on both human and cultural levels. Introduced to another way of life, you will develop autonomy and adaptability.

Planning your budget before arriving is essential. Please find below a breakdown of the essential living costs for a student in Nancy:
Accommodation: 150 – 400€ (depending on type and location)
Food: about 200€/month – a full meal in one of the Crous university restaurants: 3,20€
Transport: a monthly bus ticket 26€ (a single bus ticket: 1,30€)
A cinema ticket (student rate): 6,20€ – 7,90€
Housing insurance (for one year): about 50€
Additional healthcare cover (optional but highly recommended): about 10 to 30€/month
The above figures are given as a rough guide, as the amount you actually spend will depend on your personal lifestyle*
If you stay in France for more than 3 months you’ll have to open up a bank account. One thing to do before departure, is to check if your bank in your home country has any agreement with a French bank as it will make your banking operations easier.
Usually the required documents to open a bank account are:
a valid ID card or passport (with a proof of your visa for non-European citizens)
an original proof of residence in France (ex: tenancy agreement, an electricity or gas bill, your notification of accommodation delivered by the CROUS…) dating back less than 3 months
a copy of your letter of admission to ENSEM
Before you get to Nancy:
European students: you must request a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Please contact your local health authority for details and application.
Non-European students: you must buy health insurance in your country to be covered for your medical expenses between your arrival and September 30th.
Once you arrive in Nancy:
- Non-European students: you will have to join the French National Health Insurance (mandatory) when registering at ENSEM. You will be covered from October 1st to September 30th.
- you must register for health insurance when you register for the ENSEM on ameli.fr, this is free.
https://etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr/espace/#/
Each student enrolled at ENSEM has access to a university health center offering a variety of health care services. For more information, please contact the « Service Universitaire de Médecine Préventive et de Promotion de la Santé » (SUMPPS), also known as « Santé U ». To be entirely covered, you can take additional healthcare cover (MGEN, LMDE, etc…) In France, it is compulsory to fill in the «déclaration de choix du médecin traitant» once you have chosen a G.P (General Practitioner), otherwise you will not be fully refunded.

STUDY ABROAD
DESTINATIONS
At ENSEM, all students are required to spend a minimum of 8 weeks abroad during their studies to validate their engineering degree.
This mobility can take the form of an academic exchange, a double degree or an international internship.
Departures are allowed in S8 or S9 for academic exchanges and in S9 for double degrees.
Destinations
ENSEM has partnerships with more than 60 universities around the world. So what destination are you looking for?
(see partners section)
Procedure and Timetable
For exchanges or double degrees, your mobility project must be validated by the ENSEM jury. You will need to prepare a file so that a commission can verify that you meet the criteria of the ENSEM and the partner.
Dates for application file submission:
15th January for departures in S9
1st September for departures in S8
If ENSEM validates your mobility project, you can then apply to the partner university (each has deadlines and procedures to follow that are indicated on their website)
Of course, you will be accompanied throughout your steps by the International Relations department of the ENSEM
Financial support
Do you think going abroad is beyond your means? Don’t panic!
There are several types of financial aids to help you carry out your study or internship project abroad.
CROUS mobility grants for students meeting social criteria (AMI)
Erasmus grants
UL Mobility Aid (AMOBUL)
Grand Est Region mobility grant
Stoufflet and Vogt scholarships awarded by the Association des Ingénieurs ENSEM
The International Relations Department will inform you of the administrative steps to take to apply for financial support.
